Every three years, the Triennial of Photography Hamburg showcases international photography in collaboration with the city’s major museums, cultural institutions, galleries and artist’s spaces. Since its foundation in 1999, the festival has gained recognition and has become an important photography event throughout Germany and internationally. With a large number of exhibitions reflecting each Triennial’s leitmotiv, it highlights current topics through photography. The theme for the upcoming Triennial of Photography Hamburg 2018 will be: BREAKING POINT. SEARCHING FOR CHANGE. Next to the official program of the Triennial, which runs June through September 2018, the festival features conversations with artists, thematic discussions, lectures, portfolio viewings, evening events and an international conference.

For the first time, the Triennial of Photography Hamburg will launch the OFF TRIENNALE during its opening week, June 7 – 17, 2018. The OFF TRIENNALE was conceived as a dynamic, experimental and cutting-edge component contributing and complementing the exhibition program at the primary venues. It is the fringe of the central events of the Triennial of Photography Hamburg, the unconventional, avant-garde and edgy addition alongside the main program. The photography showcased in the OFF TRIENNALE will be generated through a juried international open call. The OFF TRIENNALE is looking for outstanding work from emerging and established artists working in the medium of photography and will present the works in solo shows at Off-locations throughout the city of Hamburg.

The OFF TRIENNALE is organized by the Triennial-Team and is curated by Nina Venus.
